Bhubaneswar: The youth, who had gone missing after jumping into the Mahanadi River from Chaunrapur Bridge in Sambalpur, was rescued by fire services personnel late Friday night.

The rescued person has been identified as Mantosh Tandi from Sunapali area. Residents rescued Mantosh after hearing his scream for help.

Going by the reports, Mantosh went missing on Friday night around 10.30 pm after jumping into the Mahanadi River in Sambalpur. Due to the late hour, it was not possible on the part of the firefighting team to carry out a search operation for the missing person. Later, around 1 am, the missing person was found stuck in a grass bush in the Govindtala area. Listening to his screams for help, residents immediately informed the police and fire department.

Before the fire department arrived, residents swung into action and rescued Mantosh.

If sources are to be believed Mantosh had a quarrel with family members over alcohol consumption which led him to jump from the Chaunrapur bridge.
