Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS Officer Yogesh Bahadur Khurania was appointed as the next Director General of Police of Odisha on Friday.

After the UPSC recommended names of three IPS officers for the post of DGP, Odisha Govt today appointed 1990-batch IPS YB Khurania as DGP & Head of Police Force (HoPF).

Khurania will replace senior IPS officer Arun Kumar Sarangi who was given additional charge DGP in charge.

Since 2018, YB Khurania has been on Central Deputation. Prior to his repatriation to Odisha, he was posted as Special DG, BSF.

In Odisha, he had served as Superintendent of Police of Nayagarh, Jajpur, Rourkela, Mayurbhanj & Ganjam dist

ricts. He also served as southern range & northern range DIG, Addl CP & CP of BBSR-CTC. He also served as Director, BPSPA-cum-IG Training

Yogesh Bahadur Khurania’s elevation to Director General of Police is a testament to his outstanding leadership and commitment to public service. A steadfast dedication to law enforcement and public safety marks his illustrious career of over thirty years.

His significant accomplishments, such as the arrest of Dara Singh, reflect his relentless quest for justice. The appalling murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two sons was an act that horrified the country. Khurania’s involvement in apprehending the culprit affirms his determination to combat such heinous acts.

As Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Western Command, Chandigarh, Khurania played a pivotal role in fortifying India’s borders and thwarting transnational crimes. His skills and experience are expected to greatly benefit his new position as Director General of Police.

Khurania’s return to his home cadre in Odisha marks a notable event, reintroducing his valuable skills and insights to the state. His guidance is poised to reinforce Odisha’s police department and aid in the state’s comprehensive progress.
