Chennai: A woman engineer complained of being sexually abused by a miscreant when she was returning from her hometown in Kerala to Chennai on an express train near Katpadi on 25 August. The woman, Anusha (name changed), who was in a state of shock and panic, returned to the women’s hostel and shared her harrowing experience with one of her office colleagues. Later, she informed her parents before filing a formal complaint with the government railway police at the Chennai Central railway station on Monday.

Victim sexually abused in reserved compartment

Her petition has been kept confidential, and a special police team has been assigned to probe the incident. According to the complainant, Anusha, who is employed at a software company in the city, went to her native place and was returning on an express train from Kerala to Chennai in a reserved compartment on 25 August. When she went to use the washroom, a stranger who stood there gagged her and pushed her inside the washroom, where he sexually abused her and then escaped.

Police personnel draw a portrait of the suspect

The incident happened after the train proceeded from the Katpadi railway station towards Chennai Central railway station. During questioning, the woman claimed that she didn’t see the predator’s face after the incident. An investigation officer said, “We are probing further into the incident to track the suspect, who travelled with her in the same train from Kerala.” As per her brief narrative about the suspect, the police personnel drew a portrait of the suspect and compared the suspect’s portrait with the passengers who travelled on the train.
