IMD Delhi-NCR Rain Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the weather in and around the national capital Delhi will be bad again and there will be torrential rain. For this, the IMD has issued a yellow alert. The Meteorological Department has said that the rain will continue throughout the week in many places of Delhi-NCR including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, an alert of heavy rain has also been issued in these areas on 20 and 21 August.

Delhi water-water, traffic jam

The national capital also received heavy rains on Tuesday morning, leading to waterlogging at many places and traffic disruptions at several places. Due to traffic jams in many areas due to heavy rains, the Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to take alternate routes. According to data shared by the IMD, the Ridge area recorded 72.4 mm of rain in the morning, while the primary weather station Safdarjung received 28.7 mm, Lodhi Road 25.6 mm and Ayanagar 2.2 mm of rain.

The IMD has said that the southwesterly winds are carrying moisture from the Arabian Sea and are moving towards the monsoon trough passing through Delhi. Apart from this, the cold, dry air associated with the local weak western disturbance has mixed with the warm, moist monsoon winds, due to which there has been heavy rain in Delhi in the morning. The low pressure area formed on the ground is called a trough line, which is spread far and wide in a line. The IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert (be cautious) for the city. Yellow alert indicates bad weather conditions and the conditions are expected to get worse, due to which there is a possibility of public life getting disrupted.

Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in many states of the Northeast for the next three to four days. During this time, storm-like winds can blow at a speed of 65 to 80 kilometers. IMD has issued a red alert for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura and said that very heavy rains are likely there.
