    Delhi Records Maximum Temperature at 36 Degrees Celsius

    The maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 36 degrees Celsius, 1.8 notches above the season’s normal, according to the IMD. Rainfall was also recorded in parts of the national capital. The Delhi PWD said it received five complaints about waterlogging and uprooted trees from the south, central and Rohini zones. Humidity was 63 per cent at 5.30 pm. The weather office has forecast generally cloudy sky with light rain on Monday (August 5). The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Monday. The AQI was recorded in the “satisfactory” category with a reading of 63 at 6 pm, as per the CPCB. PTI

    Uttarakhand: Day 4 of Kedarnath Rescue Ops, 373 People To Be Airlifted

    Over 370 people, including pilgrims, stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath, have been evacuated and sent to Lincholi to be airlifted as the rescue operation entered its fourth day on Sunday. So far, more than 10,000 people have been rescued from Kedarnath, Bhimbali and Gaurikund. Chief executive officer of Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee Yogendra Singh said these 373 people who left from Kedarnath with rescuers, including teams of SDRF and NDRF, for Lyncholi will be airlifted to safer places via helicopter. At least 570 passengers are also waiting for the helicopter at Kedarnath helipad. Singh said the district administration, temple committee and Tirtha Purohit Samaj are providing food packets, water bottles and fruits to all the people stranded in Kedarnath. PTI

    Maharashtra: Godavari in Spate, Residents Along Riverbank Told to Stay Alert

    The administration in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has appealed to citizens to stay alert amid a rise in the water level of the Godavari river due to heavy rains. An official said in the wake of incessant rains in the district, the authorities released 4,000 cusecs of water from Gangapur dam, which supplies water to Nashik city, at 4 pm. Due to the water discharge, the water level in Godavari has increased and there could be a flood-like situation downstream in Saikheda and Chandroi villages in Niphad taluka in the district. The authorities have urged citizens living in these areas and on the banks of Godavari to remain alert and take precautions, the official said. PTI

    Gujarat: Crocodiles Enter Residential Areas In Vadodara As Vishwamitri River Level Rises

    The annual monsoon woe of crocodiles leaving the safe confines of Vishwamitri river and entering residential areas of Gujarat’s Vadodara aided by flooded streets is being witnessed again this year, with 21 of these reptiles getting rescued last month, an official said. The river, 17 km of which pass through Vadodara, is home to some 300 crocodiles and an encounter with these reptiles is a common occurrence for those living in areas along its banks. “While rescue of crocodiles from residential areas near the bank of Vishwamitri river continues throughout the year, the number rises significantly during monsoon. In June, four crocodiles were rescued and released back into the river. The number rose sharply to 21 in July,” said forest official Karansinh Rajput. PTI
