    For tomorrow, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Pune, Palghar and Satara. An orange alert has been issued for Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Nashik.

    Operation to Rescue Stranded Kedarnath Pilgrims Enters Third Day; Over 10,500 Evacuated

    The operation to rescue pilgrims stranded along a rain-ravaged trek route to the Himalayan Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand entered its third day on Sunday. More than 10,500 people have been evacuated, some airlifted by air force helicopters.

    Officials said around 1,300 pilgrims are stranded in Kedarnath, Bhimbali and Gaurikund, and are safe.

    Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police are engaged in the rescue operation. The Indian Air Force’s Chinook and MI17 helicopters airlifted some pilgrims from the area on Friday.

    IAF’s Chinook, MI17 Helicopters Join Rescue Operations in Uttarakhand; 5,000 Evacuated

    The IAF’s Chinook and MI17 helicopters on Friday joined the rescue operations in Uttarakhand to evacuate pilgrims still stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath.

    The trek route to Kedarnath suffered extensive damage as a result of a cloudburst in Junglechatti near Lincholi on Wednesday night.

    Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said since the start of rescue operations on Thursday morning, 5,000 people have been evacuated to safety, with some being airlifted.

    The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) aided in the rescue efforts, he said.

    Heavy Rainfall in Himachal Till August 6: MeT Office

    The meteorological office here on Friday issued a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in isolated places in ten out districts of Himachal Pradesh till August 6.

    It also cautioned of the possibility of landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas and damage to plantations and standing crops and houses due to strong winds, and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

    Meanwhile, light rains continued in parts of the state. Kasol recorded 33 mm of rain followed by 19 mm in Seobagh, 11 mm in Hamirpur, 10 mm in Manali, 7.2 mm in Nahan, 7 mm each in Nadaun and Bilaspur, 6 mm in Jubbarhatti, 3 mm each in Dharamshala, Solan and Keylong and 2 mm each in Mandi and Chamba.

    17 Gujarat Pilgrims Stranded on Way to Kedarnath Airlifted to Safety

    Seventeen pilgrims from Gujarat, who were stranded on their way to Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand due to heavy rains, were airlifted to safety with the help of the hill state’s administration, the Gujarat government said on Friday.

    After the news of 17 pilgrims from Aravalli district being stranded near Moti Lincholi on the way to Kedarnath Dham reached here, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) to immediately coordinate rescue efforts.

    Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and apprised him of the damage caused by cloudbursts and floods in Shimla, Kullu and Mandi districts.

    The PM assured all possible help to the state and asked party workers to fully engage themselves in relief work, the BJP leader said in a statement issued here.

    Delhi Logs 27 Degrees Minimum Temperature; Rain Likely Today

    The national capital on Saturday morning recorded a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, normal for the season, according to the India Meteorological Department.

    The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 35 degrees Celsius.

    The humidity was 85 per cent at 8.30 am.

    The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the “satisfactory” category with a reading of 71 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

    Landslide Affected on National Highway 275 Near Puttur Bypass in Karnataka

    A landslide occurred on Puttur By-pass Road, which is also called Bantwal-Mysuru road and National Highway 275, officials said on Friday.

    Quoting local people, they said the landslide occurred at around 3 am on Friday following which vehicles going to Mysuru and Mangaluru started plying through Puttur town.

    According to the police, there were no incidents of anybody or any vehicles getting stuck due to the landslide. Barricades have been erected on both approaches to the landslide site, diverting the traffic through Puttur city. The city police have also taken steps to regulate the traffic.

    Heavy Rainfall Likely in Himachal Till Aug 6, 115 Roads Closed for Traffic

    The meteorological office here on Friday issued a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in isolated places in ten out districts of Himachal Pradesh till August 6.

    A total of 115 roads — 46 in Mandi, 38 in Kullu, 15 in Shimla, six each in kangra and Sirmaur, three in Kinnaur and one in Lahaul and Spiti — are closed for vehicular traffic following heavy rains in the state.

    According the state emergency operation centre, 225 transformers and 111 water supply schemes have been affected.

    Himachal Cloudbursts: Rescuers, Drones Deployed to Hunt for 45 Missing, Death Toll Rises to 8

    Rescuers deployed drones in a massive effort to trace about 45 people still missing in flash floods in three Himachal Pradesh districts as the death toll rose to eight, officials said on Friday.

    Two bodies were found in Mandi’s Rajban village and one from Kullu’s Nirmand after three cloudbursts in three districts — Kullu, Mandi and Shimla — on Wednesday night triggered the flash floods.

    Around 300 people stranded around Shrikhand Mahadev in Kullu were safe and about 25 tourists at Malana are being looked after well by the locals, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena said.

    Delhi Rain: Waterlogged Roads Choke Traffic

    Rain in parts of Delhi on Friday uprooted trees and caused waterlogging, hitting traffic movement at several places, officials said.

    Waterlogging in south Delhi led to long queues of vehicles.

    The weather office sounded a ‘yellow’ warning, cautioning people to “be aware” of light to moderate rainfall, in the morning.

    This status was later changed to green, signifying “no warning.” Amid the waterlogging, the traffic police issued an advisory and asked commuters to avoid certain roads.

    NDRF Team Deployed in Ranchi, Deoghar to Rescue People from Low-lying Areas Hit by Incessant Rain

    NDRF teams were on Friday deployed in Jharkhand capital Ranchi and Deoghar to rescue people from low-lying areas hit by incessant rains, officials said.

    Rescue operation is ongoing in low-lying areas, including New Bandhgari locality in Sadar police station area of the capital, an NDRF official said.

    “Our team, headed by Deputy Commandant Vinay Kumar, has rescued about 40 people from Ranchi’s low-lying areas so far,” said NDRF’s Brajesh Kumar Singh.
