The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a rise in rainfall across several regions of the country over the next week. A cyclonic circulation in southeast Uttar Pradesh and another in northeast Rajasthan are likely to cause widespread rainfall in northwest India, particularly affecting Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a surge in rainfall across various parts of the country over the next 7 days. A cyclonic circulation over southeast Uttar Pradesh and another over northeast Rajasthan are expected to bring heavy rainfall to northwest India, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and east Uttar Pradesh.

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over these regions from August 10 to 16. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan during the period.

The monsoon trough remains normal and passing through Bikaner, Rohtak and other regions, with cyclonic circulations continuing over northeast Rajasthan, southeast Uttar Pradesh and northeast Assam. A trough continues from south Interior Karnataka to Comorin and an off-Shore trough remains along Maharashtra-Karnataka coasts, which indicates an active monsoon conditions with potential for heavy rainfall.

West & Central India

In west and central India, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and parts of Madhya Pradesh are also expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall on August 11. Very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh on August 10th.

East and norteast

East and northeast India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to get fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall from till August 16. Very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over these regions during the period.

South peninsular India

In south peninsular India, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe till August 14. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also expected over Tamil Nadu.
