Weather forecast today: Moderate flash flood warning for Himachal, moderate rains in most states
IMD Weather Forecast and warning today: Monsoon continues to be active over the most parts of India as the IMD predicted moderate to widespread rainfall in most states such as Uttararakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu while Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness inclement weather today with a prediction of moderate flash floods. Here’s a detailed weather forecast across India.

New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh remains in the caution zone as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a moderate flash flood warning in isolated parts of the Himalayan state along with an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next few days.
Besides, majority of the states will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday as predicted in IMD’s weather forecast while a heavy rainfall prediction has been made for some places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and western Uttar Pradesh.
For the Delhi-NCR region, the weatherman has predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall and thundershowers on August 7 and 8.
Here’s a state-wise weather prediction by the IMD:
Himachal Pradesh
The meteorological center has warned of moderate flash flood risk in seven districts of Himachal Pradesh: Kangra, Sirmaur, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Mandi, within the next 24 hours. An ‘orange’ alert for very heavy rain has been issued for parts of Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una until Wednesday evening. Additionally, there is an ‘orange’ warning for heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas of the state on August 7 and 10.
North India
During the week, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan, while Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi will see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over West Rajasthan on the 6th, Himachal Pradesh on the 7th and 10th, West Uttar Pradesh on the 7th, and Uttarakhand on the 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th of August. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in parts of north India throughout the week, the IMD forecast mentioned.
West and Central India
During the week, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Konkan & Goa and the Gujarat Region, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch. Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over East Madhya Pradesh on August 7.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh on August 7 and 8; East Madhya Pradesh from August 6 to 8; Chhattisgarh on August 6 and 7; Konkan & Goa from August 7 to 11; Madhya Maharashtra from August 6 to 12; and the Gujarat Region on August 8 and 9.
East & Northeast India
East and Northeast India can expect fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning throughout the week. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya from August 6 to 12, and in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from August 6 to 10.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to experience heavy rainfall on August 6, while Odisha and Bihar will see similar conditions on the same day. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Bihar from August 6 to 11, Odisha from August 6 to 8, Jharkhand on August 6, 7, and 11, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from August 7 to 10, and Gangetic West Bengal on August 6.
South India
Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka, with isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema over the next five days. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Telangana on August 6 and 7, and over Kerala on August 6.
