Weather forecast: Heavy rain to lash Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, other states for next 5 days

Several states across the country, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh have been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few weeks. Incessant rainfall has led to waterlogging, traffic chaos, flight and train disruptions, crippling normal life in these states.

Weather forecast and IMD warning

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across several states for the next five days. The weather office also said that active monsoon conditions is likely over most parts of northwest India during the next 4-5 days.

“Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls likely over Central and East India during next 4-5 days,” the IMD said in it weather forecast report.

Several states across the country, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh have been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few weeks. Incessant rainfall has led to waterlogging, traffic chaos, flight and train disruptions, crippling normal life in these states.

Meanwhile, massive landslides struck various hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district early on Tuesday, leaving hundreds of people suspected to be trapped. Rescue operations are underway amid heavy rainfall, said officials.

Rain forecast in these states

According to IMD, West and Central India is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning during the next five days. Heavy rainfall is predicted in Madhya Pradesh from July 31 to August 2, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Goa on August 1 and 2, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat on August 2, the weather office said.

Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during the next five days.

“Isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Uttarakhand during 30th July- 02nd August, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on 31st July & 01st August, Haryana-Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan on 31st July. Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand during 30th July- 02nd August, Punjab during 29th July- 01st August, Haryana-Chandigarh during 30th July- 02nd August, Uttar Pradesh during 30th July- 01st August, West Rajasthan during 30th – 31st July,” the IMD said.

The IMD has also forecast rainfall in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana
during the next five days. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand are also expected to witness rainfall during the next five days.

July – 02nd August, Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on  30th July, 01st
August & 02nd August, Assam and Meghalaya on 30th; Jharkhand during 30th July- 01st August,
Gangetic West Bengal on 31st July and 01 August,” the IMD said.
