VIT-AP University Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Grandeur
VIT-AP University celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great pomp and ceremony. The chief guest, Elavarasu Krishnan – Vice President, Dell Technologies, Bangalore, graced the occasion and hoisted the national flag.
During the event, Chief Guest Elavarasu Krishnan honoured a total of 9 unsung heroes award recipients: 2 from the NDRF, 5 municipal workers, and 2 DMHO medical staff. Each recipient was presented with a memento and a cash reward of ₹25,000.
Elavarasu Krishnan commended VIT-AP University for its annual recognition of unsung heroes who have made significant contributions to society and, in some cases, sacrificed their own lives to save others. He praised the university for its commitment to honouring these individuals on Independence and Republic Day every year.
Vice Chancellor Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy elaborated on various social responsibility initiatives undertaken by the university. In addition to the Independence Day celebrations, the university awarded prizes to students, teachers, and staff who excelled in various sports competitions held as part of the festivities.
Details of the Unsung Heroes Award Recipients:
NDRF
Gautam Kumar B (Inspector, 10th Battalion, NDRF)
N. Swamy (Constable, 10th Battalion, NDRF)
These two individuals were honoured for their unwavering commitment to saving lives in numerous emergencies, such as floods and children falling into bore wells etc. Each received an award of ₹25,000.
Municipal Workers
Narasala Keshava Rao (Municipal Worker, Guntur Municipal Corporation)
Ganta Radhakrishna (Municipal Worker, Guntur Municipal Corporation)
Ganduri Srinivasa Rao (Municipal Worker, Guntur Municipal Corporation)
Keshanapalli Jeevaratnam (Municipal Worker, Guntur Municipal Corporation)
Seeram Shetty Sridhar (Municipal Worker, Guntur Municipal Corporation)
These five municipal workers were honoured for their tireless efforts in maintaining cleanliness, removing hazardous waste, and effectively performing their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each was awarded ₹25,000.
District Medical and Health Office Staff
P. Bhagyalakshmi (ANM, Sangam Jagarlamudi Primary Health Center)
D. Sumant Kumari (ANM, Peddakakani Primary Health Center)
These two individuals were recognized for their top performance in registering 12 types of indicators, including registration services, delivery outcomes, vaccination details, and preventing maternal and infant mortality. Each was awarded ₹25,000.
In addition to the Unsung Heroes, 31 housekeeping staff members and 10 security personnel were also honoured for their diligent efforts in maintaining the university’s cleanliness and security.
Faculty, Staff, Scholars and Students who participated in intramural sports competitions were also felicitated on this occasion.
The event was attended by Registrar Dr. Jagadish Chandra Mudiganti, Student Welfare Deputy Director Dr. S.K. Khadeer Pasha, along with faculty, staff, students, and other attendees.
