On Monday, August 26, Ramchand Kakrani, the owner of a petrol pump in Virar, was found dead in his car near Vasai Phata on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway. Kakrani was 75 and had been missing since Sunday, August 25. His limbs were tied, and there were signs of strangulation on his body.

Kakrani was a resident of Ulhasnagar. On Sunday, at 11:30 am, he left his home to visit his fuel pump. At 3 pm, he arrived at the Rahil petrol station and collected INR 50,000 from the pump. He informed his family that he was heading home at around 5:30 pm.

However, Kakrani did not return home that night. In response, his family started searching for him. Both his phone and that of his driver, Mukesh Kubchandani, 54, were switched off. Kakrani’s son, Shailesh, filed a missing person’s report with the Naigaon police. He reported Kubchandani as the main suspect. The police traced the phones to Kaman, about 27 kilometres from Virar.

While searching for Kakrani and Kubchandani, the Pelhar police received a report of a body in a parked car on the highway. The police identified the body as Kakrani’s. The Naigaon police were informed immediately. The bag containing the cash was missing. Police suspect that Kubchandani might have killed Kakrani for financial gain.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact reason of death. The police are interviewing Kakrani’s family and employees at the gas station. They are also examining CCTV footage from the gas pump and the path taken by the driver. The investigation is ongoing, and the search for Kubchandani continues.
