New Delhi: Union minister Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi will lay the foundation stone for a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Testing Facility at the National Test House (NTH) RRSL Camp in Bengaluru on 22 August 2024. The facility marks a significant expansion of NTH’s testing capabilities in South India, particularly in emerging areas like EV battery and charger testing.
The upcoming facility, located at the RRSL Jakkuru campus, is set to bolster the growing ecosystem of electric vehicles by offering essential testing services to the EV industry. It aligns with India’s broader goals of environmental sustainability and innovation in automotive technology. The laboratory will be equipped with advanced EV battery testing equipment, capable of performing a wide range of tests, including electrical safety, EMC/EMF, FCC/ISED, functional safety, and durability tests, among others.
“This new EV testing facility will provide vital support to the EV industry and contribute to the development of the sector in southern India,” an official said. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that electric vehicles meet stringent quality standards before reaching consumers, thus supporting the nation’s commitment to sustainable and green energy solutions.
National Test House, under the department of consumer affairs, has been a leader in testing and quality assurance across various sectors. NTH’s network of state-of-the-art testing laboratories extends to Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Ghaziabad, Guwahati, Jaipur, and Varanasi. The RRSL Bengaluru is part of this network and focuses on testing and calibration of weighing and measuring instruments.
During the event, an OIML-approved certificate will be presented to M/S Tatsuno India Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, a manufacturer of dispensing units for petrol pumps, highlighting the facility’s role in supporting national and international standards.
