Two Container Vehicles Transporting Gold & Silver Worth Rs 30 Crore Intercepted Near Biju Patnaik Airport | Odisha

Bhubaneswar: GST & CT sleuths detained two container vehicles carrying a huge amount of gold and silver worth over Rs 30 crore near Biju Patnaik International airport on Monday.

Initial reports indicate that approximately 50 kilograms of gold and around 200 kilograms (two quintals) of silver were intercepted. The gold and silver were being transported in two container vehicles. The estimated value of the seized goods is around Rs 30 crore. However, the origin and ownership of the gold and silver have yet to be determined.

Manas Swain, Additional Commissioner of GST said, “We will investigate whether the individuals transporting gold and silver have complied with GST regulations, including payment of taxes and possession of a valid e-way bill. If they are found to have followed all legal procedures, including GST clearance, they will be released. However, their identities will remain confidential. Our examination is focused on the GST aspect, and subsequent actions will be taken based on our findings. If any irregularities are detected, appropriate penalties will be imposed.”
