A One day Training on Free Diagnostic Services for laboratory technicians of Nagaland took place here today at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) Nagaland in collaboration with Regional Resource Centre for North East States (Branch of NHSRC, New Delhi).

Addressing the inaugural session, Regional Resource Centre for North East (RRC-NE) director Dr. Raj Prabha Moktan said that PHC, CHC and some district hospitals are performing well but diagnostic centres needs improvement.

There’s a paradigm shift happening across the departments of the health sector in the country and diagnostic services need further upgradation and improvement, she added.

Asserting that Nagaland with 70% of the population lives in the rural areas, she said free Diagnostic services should be able to reach the door steps of the masses.

She maintained that one of the commendable things about the health care system of Nagaland is the communitization of health care sector.

Health & Family Welfare principal director Dr. E. Motsuthung Patton said that the need of the hour is to strengthen the health care infrastructure system, to enhance facilities and build the capacities of medical professionals to offer effective care and treatment in their respective communities.

Overview of BMEMP & FDSI
Sharing an overview of BMEMP & FDSI, Dr. Mereninla Senlem, State Programme Officer NHM said that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India had launched Free Diagnostics Service Initiative (FDSI) in the year 2015 with a view to reduce Out of Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) especially in diagnostics.

Under this scheme, the NHM is supporting all states to provide essential diagnostics – laboratory and radiology at their public health facilities, free of cost to all beneficiaries.  

To strengthen the laboratories, semi-biochemistry analysers and haematology analysers were procured, based on the equipment gap analysis from the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and rapid card test kit for Sub-Centres (SCs), were purchased under the Fifteenth Finance Commission, she said.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Manyau Phom, Deputy Director NHM while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director NHM Nagaland.

In the technical session, overview of test under Haematology & clinical pathology, sample collection, procedure, sample rejection, internal quality control, EQAS etc was shared by Dr. Seyiechiituo Solo, Senior specialist – Pathologist, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

Dr. Lhoukhovi Jau, senior specialist- Biochemistry NHAK highlighted the overview of test under Biochemistry.

Strengthening of Lab. Services and EQAS for Laboratory was covered by RRC-NE, GoI.
