Nagaland’s Health & Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak today said that “Together Nagaland will overcome HIV & AIDS.”

Launching the two month long Intensified (Information, Education, Communication) IEC Campaign under the aegis of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) at NBCC Convention Centre Kohima, the Minister said, “This initiative is not just a program but a movement aimed at empowering our communities with knowledge and understanding that can transform lives.”

The Minister said that the main weapon to fight against HIV “is Awareness, Test and Treatment,” adding that information is power.”

Paiwang administered a pledge, wherein the gatherings pledged to create awareness to spread the message “that prevention is the only cure for HIV & AIDS and work to eliminate stigma and discrimination.”

The Minister encouraged one and all to be the ambassadors of this IEC campaign to spread the message far and wide, “ensuring that the knowledge we share today will lead to a brighter, healthier tomorrow.”

The minister said that National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) has initiated this campaign all over the nation in coinciding with International Youth Day to spread awareness about HIV, promoting safe practices and reducing stigma and discrimination in the society.

Over the next two months, he said, the campaign will reach every corner of Nagaland, raising awareness about HIV, promoting safe practices and reducing stigma and discrimination in the society.

Paiwang said that the IEC campaign is designed to bridge the gap by disseminating vital information in a way that is accessible, engaging and impactful. “Our focus is not just on spreading awareness but also on education-providing the knowledge that can change behaviours and lead to healthier, safer and more informed communities,” Paiwang said.

Stating that information alone is not enough, he said, “we need to communicate effectively, understanding the unique needs and challenges of different segments of our society as this campaign will leverage various channels-traditional media, digital platforms, community outreach and face-to-face interactions-to ensure that our messages resonate with diverse audiences.”
