New Delhi: As the 63rd Subroto Cup Sub-Junior Boys International Football Tournament gets underway, three teams have been barred from participating. The teams were found guilty of fielding overage players and will now be disqualified.

An official announcement from the Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society, under the aegis of the Air Force Sports Control Board have made the same announcement and disqualified Nazareth Model High School, Dima Hasao, Assam; Ultou Govt. Model High School, Bishnupur, Manipur and Nehru Public School, Jamui, Bihar.

The official statement also mentioned that reports of three more teams from Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra were also being awaited, and a decision will be taken after those results are received.

According to media reports, a Skeletal Age Estimation test was conducted per tournament regulations, for which the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has set guidelines. All three teams were found liable for fielding more than four players who were above the set age bar, which finally led to the teams’ ban.

This also means that the matches played on Day 1 by these teams were declared invalid. In the previous edition, 16 teams were disqualified from the tournament after being caught fielding overaged players. The Subroto Cup aims to promote football at the grassroots level and encourage country-wide participation.
