Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) alongside Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM) are undertaking the final preparations for a series of roadshows Indian which will promote Maldives as a tourist destination.

The “Welcome India” roadshow will take place across three major Indian cities and is aimed at strengthening Maldives’ position as a premier holiday destination for Indian tourists.

In this regard, the roadshow will kick off a New Delhi on July 30th which will then continue to Mumbai on August 1st and end at Bangalore on August 3rd.

MMPRC said the high-profile event will bring together leading industry stakeholders from both countries, providing a platform to nurture new partnerships, strengthen existing ties, and showcase the Maldives’ unparalleled beauty and diversity by highlighting pristine beaches, luxurious, resorts, charming guesthouses, and rich cultural heritage.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore business opportunities.

An esteemed delegation will represent the Maldives during the roadshow which will include Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and Advisor to the President on Tourism Development Mohamed Khaleel.

A raffle giveaway will take place during each roadshow where the lucky winners will be receiving a holiday prize. The raffles have been sponsored by Kandima Maldives, Nova Maldives, Arena Hotels, Kaani Hotels, Villa Nautica, Sirru Fen Fushi, Holiday Inn Kandooma and Alila, Kothaifaru Maldives.

India had been the top tourist market to the Maldives from 2020 to 2023, but slipped to sixth rank this year owing to tensions between India and the Maldives.

Relations between the South Asian allies soured after three Maldivian deputy ministers made disparaging remarks on social media against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in 2024 – after which Indian netizens and celebrities alike launched a ‘Boycott Maldives’ campaign.

The relations however, appear to be on the mend now with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu among chief attendees to the swearing-in ceremony of Modi; who was elected for a third time recently.
