‘They were part of probe team’: Kolkata Police on photo of crowded RG Kar hospital crime scene
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which took over the probe into the rape-murder case from the Kolkata Police on August 13 had told the Supreme Court last week that there was an attempt to cover up the incident and that the crime scene was ‘altered’.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Kolkata Police on Friday shrugged off the claims of a compromised crime scene and unauthorised entry of many people to the seminar room of the state-run medical facility where the semi-nude body of the 31-year-old medic was found on August 9.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which took over the probe into the rape-murder case from the Kolkata Police on August 13 had told the Supreme Court last week that there was an attempt to cover up the incident and that the crime scene was ‘altered’ by the time the federal agency took over the investigation.
“As we entered the fifth day of the investigation, everything was altered, including the crime scene,” CBI had told the apex court on August 22.
A picture of the crowded seminar hall where the doctor was found dead also went viral on social media with many raising questions over the presence of large number of people at the crime scene.
What did Kolkata Police said on CBI’s charges
Countering the CBI charges, the Kolkata Police said that the crime scene was not compromised and claimed that all individuals seen in the viral picture were fully authorised to be there and have been identified.
“We are talking about the photo in question. It has been alleged that there are probably some people who were not supposed to be there and there has been some tampering of evidence… Right behind the cordon is the body. I can tell you the names of all the people who are in the picture. They were all part of the investigation team,” Indira Mukherjee, DCP Central, Kolkata Police said during a press briefing.
“At no point in time could anybody enter this area who was not authorised. Nobody entered who was not associated with the investigation process,” the senior police officer added.
