Telangana: Retd Justice Madan B Lokur to head power purchase probe against KCR
The appointment of a new chairman comes after Justice L Narasimha Reddy stepped down and resigned.

Hyderabad: Retired Supreme Court Justice Madan B Lokur will be the chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the power purchase agreements with Chhattisgarh and the building of Bhadradri, Yadadri power plants, which happened during the tenure of the BRS government.
The appointment of a new chairman comes after Justice L Narasimha Reddy stepped down and resigned after former CM KCR filed a plea in the top court against the panel and the chairman. While the court dismissed the plea, it pulled up Justice L Narasimha Reddy for speaking to the media on the investigation.
Necessary formalities of his appointment as the chairman of the commission have been completed, reports said.

Madan B Lokur practiced law in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court and enrolled as an advocate in July 1977. He was the acting chief justice of the Delhi High Court, Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court from 2012-2013, Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court and was later a judge at the Supreme Court from 2012 for six-and-a-half years.
Legal experts say that he guarded independence of judiciary fiercely and did not mince words to criticize the collegium whenever he found the ways of it troublesome.
He is the first Indian judge to be appointed from India to the Supreme Court of Fiji for two terms.
