Bhattacharjee has deep roots and extensive experience in the region having spent his childhood in Assam and Meghalaya. His passion for literature, travel, and meeting people fuelled his realization of how little the rest of India knew about this vibrant part of the country.

After retiring as Chief of Bureau United News of India (UNI), he turned his attention to writing scripts for Doordarshan, focusing on the tourist attractions of Meghalaya and other Northeastern states. These scripts laid the groundwork for his latest book.

Now residing in Kolkata, Subroto, at the ripe old age of 85 years, says his book ‘Surreal Symphony of Nature’ is a labour of love and seeks to share his enthusiasm for Meghalaya and the broader Northeast. He firmly believes this book will ignite interest in this often-overlooked region.

Highlights of the book include:
– The festival of the 100 drums
– The century-old Durga Temple with its intriguing past
– The inspiring story of a national statesman who walked for days as a child in pursuit of education
– The first woman from the Northeast to serve as a Member of Parliament
– An entomological museum from Meghalaya featured in a world-renowned travel guide
– U Tirot Sing Syiem, the patriot who resisted British colonial rule in the early 19th century
– A remote, picturesque village nestled on a river island.
– The unique features of the Shillong Golf Course, one of the oldest in India.

Surreal Symphony of Nature provides a rich, multifaceted view of Meghalaya and aims to inspire readers to explore and discover more about this captivating region.
