State Soars, But Capital Takes A Dive In Results | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Students living in Lucknow are expected to do better, not only because it is the state capital but students here have better infrastructure and teachers. But UP board class 10 and 12 results show otherwise. While only 76.5% students from class 12 qualified the exam in Lucknow, the pass percentage for class 10 students in Lucknow stood at 92.5%.
Even though the pass percentage of class 10 students rose marginally by 0.7% from last year, it couldn’t make it to the top 10 districts this time. Last year, with a pass percentage of 91.8%, Lucknow was at the 7th place.
The disappointment, however, came with the results of class 12 students as Lucknow, which had notched the 3rd rank last year, tripped down to the 45th position this year.
The pass percentage saw a tremendous decline from 92.16% in 2022 to 76.5% in 2023.
Also, none of the top five toppers in the state tally, either in class 10 or 12, is from Lucknow. In fact, only one student among 179 who made it the top 10 in class 10 is from Lucknow.
In class 12, five students from among 253 who made it to the merit list (of top 10) are from Lucknow.
The top performing districts in class 10 are Kanpur Nagar (94.4%), Agra (94.28%) and Prayagraj (94.21%). In class 12, the top performing districts are Amroha (86.5%), Chitrakoot (85.3%) and Varanasi (85.1%).
“A lot of schools that used to give toppers earlier have opted for CBSE or ICSE boards in the past few years. Also, there is more strictness in Lucknow as it’s the capital of the state. There are less chances of cheating in Lucknow as compared to other semi-urban or rural districts,” said a member of a teachers’ association.
