Srinagar DM Imposes Ban on Licensed Arms Ahead of Assembly Elections

Srinagar: Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the District Magistrate of Srinagar has issued prohibitory orders banning the carrying of licensed arms within the district until the completion of the election process.

In an order, District Magistrate Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi Ud Din Bhat, said that the directive has been issued under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita of 2023.

“I, Dr. Bilal Mohi Ud Din Bhat, IAS, District Magistrate, Srinagar, hereby issue Prohibitory Orders under Section 163 of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita of 2023, imposing a complete ban on the carrying of licensed arms within the district until the completion of the election process,” the order reads.

The order explained that the measure has been taken to ensure the maintenance of law and order, which is essential for conducting free and fair elections.

According to the order, the directive follows guidelines from the Election Commission of India. —(KNO)
