Sports Deptt celebrates National Sports Day with fervour across J&K – Kashmir Reader
DG YSS inaugurates UT-level Judo competitions in Srinagar
SRINAGAR: On the National Sports Day, the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K organised various sports activities and programmes across all the 20 districts of the Union Territory.
Participants were sensitised about the benefits of participating in games and recreational sports activities during these programmes. Matches in different games were conducted between the student players and other members of the communities to spread awareness about the relevance of sports in one’s healthy life. Special sports oaths were also administered to students, employees of the Department of YSS and general masses in these activities.
Director General of Youth Services and Sports J&K, Rajinder Singh Tara, inaugurated an Inter District UT level Judo competition at the Indoor Sports Complex Polo Ground in Srinagar.
Teams from 10 districts of the Union Territory are enthusiastically participating in this prestigious sports tournament. Each team is accompanied by dedicated officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department of their respective districts, highlighting the commitment and support provided by the department to promote sports at the grassroots level.
To ensure fair play and adherence to rules, the Department of Youth Services and Sports has deployed a team of professional officials specifically trained in adjudicating and officiating matches for the Judo competitions. Their expertise and guidance will contribute to the smooth conduct of the tournament.
During the inauguration ceremony, DG YSS extended his warm wishes of the National Sports Day to the employees of the Department and all the participating students.
In his detailed message for the employees of the Department he said,
“As Director General of Youth Services and Sports Department, I am proud of the efforts and dedication shown by our department’s employees in promoting sports and nurturing young talents across the UT. This hard work and commitment has helped in creating a vibrant sports culture that inspires our youth to excel in various sporting disciplines. Let us all pledge to continue promoting sports and physical fitness among our youth, paving the way for a healthier and more active community. Together, we can build a brighter future for the budding sports stars of Jammu and Kashmir.”
While addressing the student players he stated, the younger generation should actively participate in sports and make it an integral part of their daily routine. They must embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, push their limits, and strive for excellence in whatever sport they choose to pursue.
Others who were present on this occasion included Joint Director Kashmir, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar and other senior officials of the Department. Proceedings of the function were conducted by I/c Media & Publicity Coordinator of the Department.
