Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure a smooth and congestion-free journey for commuters, the Odisha Government has given the nod for the development of six-lane access-controlled highways with two-lane service roads on both sides of the Bhubaneswar-Puri Highway and Barbil-Chandikhole Road.

The Works Department Special Secretary has written to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Regional Office to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the two road projects.

In a letter, the Special Secretary of the State Works Department, Laxmikant Padhi, informed the regional office of NHAI about the state government’s approval for the upgrade of the two roads.

Apart from requesting the NHAI to prepare a DPR for the construction of the six-lane highways with two-lane service roads on both sides of the Bhubaneswar-Puri NH-316 and Chandikhole Road-Barbil Road, Padhi has also requested the NHAI to make a presentation to the Chief Secretary for finalization of the alignment and controlled access locations.

In his letter, Paik has also asked the NHAI to take necessary steps for the implementation of the project, which aims to provide a smooth and congestion-free journey for commuters on these routes.

The move comes after the NHAI proposed the development of access-controlled highways with service roads, citing the increasing traffic volume on these routes.
