Bhubaneswar: Responding to the queries into the investigation of the SIM boxes racket in Bhubaneswar, Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda today stated that the accused Raju Mandal was managed by a Bangladeshi national named Asadur Jaman.

The Twin City CP stated that accused Mandal, a West Bengal native, managed the SIM boxes from a leased property in Bhubaneswar, ensuring the functionality of UPS, internet, and other services.

Following a raid on a house last Friday, approximately 1000 SIM cards, primarily pre-activated from West Bengal, along with old SIMs, routers, and additional equipment, were seized.

The SIM boxes were utilised to reroute international calls to Pakistan, China, and the Middle East. Mandal was responsible for visiting the house to address any SIM issues and to perform maintenance and repairs.

Panda noted that SIM boxes, which mask original numbers, are often employed for cybercrimes, hate speech, terrorist acts, extortion, and other illegal activities, posing challenges for law enforcement agencies.

“Bangladeshi national Asadur Jaman entered India in October through Agartala and visited Bhubaneswar. He went back to Bangladesh in December. During his stay, he made payments to Mandal and is believed to have established two more SIM boxes, which are expected to be dismantled soon,” added the Police Commissioner.
