Bhubaneswar: In a surprising turn of events, the family of Raju Mandal, the accused in the SIM box case, has filed a missing person complaint with a police station in West Bengal. This comes even as Raju is currently in police remand in connection with the case.

After receiving a missing person report, the West Bengal police tracked Raju Mandal’s mobile phone and found his last location at Laxmisagar police station. The West Bengal police informed the Laxmisagar police station, and after that, Raju’s family members were informed about his arrest. After receiving the news of his arrest, Raju Mandal’s family members, along with their lawyer, reached Laxmisagar police station. The Laxmisagar police provided all the information related to Raju’s arrest to his family members. Additionally, the Laxmisagar police are also inquiring further about Raju’s family members.

Raju Mandal has been remanded to five days of police custody. The mastermind, Ashadur, is still absconding, and a search operation is underway to apprehend him.

Notably, the Commissionerate Police team from Bhubaneswar, which reached Ranchi on Tuesday, uncovered five additional SIM boxes from a residential building located in the Maulana Azad Colony of the city.

According to sources, the discovery was made during a search operation conducted by the Special Squad of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, acting on information provided by the accused, Raju Mandal.

The Commissionerate Police is likely to seek assistance from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Interpol to further explore the international dimensions of this illegal racket, the sources further said.
