All the plans for railway interchanges and future tolls will be carried out from here. Key interchange station will be set up in the area to connect the city and suburbs. Preparations for this are going on in full swing. Once the project is completed and operational, the OMR station is set to become the hub of the metro station in the next two years.
The development will provide future connectivity to the East Coast Road (ECR) and facilitate vehicular traffic. Also, expressways will be constructed for easy access to railway stations, according to CMRL officials.

The project covers 19 stations over a distance of 20 km from Nehru Nagar to Siruseri SIPCOT. The IT Corridor in OMR is to be integrated with the Madhavaram, Milkl Colony-Siruseri SIPCOT Corridor-3 up to 45.4 km in Phase 2 Chennai Metro Project.

Officials have indicated that the OMR railway station hub will become operational by the end of 2026, six months later than the initial deadline, due to changes in road design, with Sholinganallur being a key area for future projects.

Currently, according to estimates, over 100,000 vehicles and nearly 3,000 pedestrians pass through the busy junction to ECR via Sholinganallur, Navallur, Adyar, Perumbakkam Medavakkam, and Kalyan Karunanidhi Road.

To reach T Nagar and Kodambakkam one can reach the Sholinganallur area by changing to Lighthouse or Alappakkam platforms. Or transfer to corridors at Alandur to go to Airport, Egmore, or Central.

Additionally, the second section of the elevated corridor at OMR will be extended by 80-100 m from Sholinganallur to Kalayan Karunanidhi Road, which will help in the future expansion of the ECR. Under the metro lines, service roads will be constructed to ease traffic congestion and provide quick access to motorists to Karapakkam, Medavakkam, Semmancherry, East Coast Road, and metro stations, officials said.
