Methamphetamine worth Rs 70 crore seized at Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai, 3 held
Chennai: Approximately 7 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 70 crore on the international market, has been seized by the anti-narcotics unit from Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai. Three individuals identified as Mansoor Rahman from Ramanathapuram, Ibrahim, and Mansoor from Chennai have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
The drug was being smuggled to Sri Lanka
The officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) intercepted them when they were intended to transport the drug to Ramanathapuram. The methamphetamine, which was destined for smuggling from Chennai to Ramanathapuram by bus was subsequently smuggled to Sri Lanka, NCB officials said.
NCB officials got a tip-off about the smuggling of drugs from Chennai. Acting on a tip-off, the Chennai Zonal NCB (NCB) officials nabbed a man from Ramanathapuram district who was standing suspiciously at the Kilambakkam bus stand and started an investigation. A subsequent search of the man’s belongings led to the seizure of approximately 5,970 kilograms of methamphetamine, according to sources.
Additionally, one kilogram of methamphetamine was recovered in the follow up action
The concerned persons provided information about the area from which the methamphetamine drug was being trafficked. Based on the investigation, additionally, one kilogram of methamphetamine was recovered from a godown in the Red Hills area of Tiruvallur district near Chennai. Alongside the drugs, Rs 7 lakh in cash was also confiscated.
