New Delhi: The Rashtrapati Bhavan has announced the appointment of six new governors and the replacement of three existing governors.

Acharya has been appointed to replace Kataria, who has taken on the role of administrator for the Union Territory of Chandigarh, as per a communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night.

The statement also mentioned that President Droupadi Murmu has accepted Purohit’s resignation from his positions as the governor of Punjab and the administrator of Chandigarh.

“Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur,” the statement said.

Anusuiya Uikye has been serving as the governor of Manipur since February of last year.

According to the communiqué, veteran BJP leader Om Prakash Mathur will become the new governor of Sikkim.

C P Radhakrishnan, who was the governor of Jharkhand and also held additional charge of Telangana, has been appointed as the new governor of Maharashtra, succeeding Ramesh Bais.

Jishnu Dev Varma, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, has been appointed as the new governor of Telangana.

Former IAS officer K Kailashnathan, known as a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, effective from the date he assumes office.

Kailashnathan, who served as the chief principal secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, resigned on June 30 after more than a decade in the position post-retirement.

Senior BJP leader Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde from Maharashtra has been appointed the governor of Rajasthan, replacing Kalraj Mishra.

Ramen Deka, a former Lok Sabha member from Assam, has been named the Governor of Chhattisgarh, while C H Vijayashankar, a former Lok Sabha member from Mysore in Karnataka, will become the governor of Meghalaya, according to the communiqué.

Former Union Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar will be the new governor of Jharkhand, succeeding C P Radhakrishnan.
