The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall for Wednesday (August 21) in Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur, Kerala, Assam, and Meghalaya. According to the latest weather forecast issued by IMD, isolated areas in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days. As per IMD’s latest forecast, isolated heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh on August 21, 25, and 26; in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan through August 26; and in Uttar Pradesh until August 24. 

The weather agency also predicts heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh on August 21 and from August 23 to 26, in Maharashtra on August 21 and from August 24 to 26, in Chhattisgarh until August 24, in Goa until August 26, and in Gujarat on August 21, 25, and 26. Furthermore, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Assam and Meghalaya on August 21 and 24; and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on August 21 and 25.

Light rain in Delhi

The Met office forecasts mostly cloudy skies with light rain for Wednesday. The temperatures are expected to range from a high of around 33 degrees Celsius to a low of about 25 degrees Celsius. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi has issued a yellow alert for heavy showers over the next three days, with periods of rain expected to continue for the following five days.

Yellow alert in Himachal 

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of low to moderate flash flood risk for Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts through Wednesday. On Tuesday, heavy rains persisted in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, prompting the local MeT office to issue a ‘yellow’ alert for potential heavy rains in isolated areas of the state for the next 48 hours. Kuldeep Srivastava, head of Himachal Pradesh IMD said, “The monsoon is expected to continue in the state until the end of September. Due to atmospheric moisture, visibility conditions are likely to be poor.” 

Orange alert in parts of Kerala

As heavy rains persist across Kerala, the IMD has issued an orange alert for six districts and a yellow alert for the rest of the state on Wednesday. The IMD also forecasts thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram.

Heavy rains lash Hyderabad

The Met Centre of the IMD has reported that heavy rain is expected at isolated locations in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana until 8:30 AM on August 21. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h are anticipated in isolated areas, particularly in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and several other districts.

Very heavy rainfall to continue over Tripura

The IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall for Tripura over the next two days. On Tuesday, the IMD attributed the persistent downpours to a low-pressure area lingering over central Bangladesh and its surrounding regions. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Agartala noted that the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above sea level and is expected to move north-northwestward across West Bengal within the next 48 hours. The forecast also includes the possibility of flash floods, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and a high likelihood of landslides or mudslides in certain locations.
