IMD weather forecast and warning: Monsoon rains continue to drench most parts of the country, with light to heavy showers expected across several states. On Independence Day, Delhi-NCR may see light rain, while heavy rains are forecasted in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.

New Delhi: The monsoon season is in full swing and most parts of the country are experiencing heavy rainfall. From Delhi-NCR to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, people have been drenched by light, medium and heavy showers over the past week.

As India celebrates its 78th Independence Day on Thursday, many are concerned about how the weather might affect the celebrations.

Delhi-NCR: Light Rain expected on Independence Day

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light rain or drizzles in Delhi on August 15. A yellow alert for rain has been issued for the Delhi-NCR region for three days, signaling the likelihood of rain in some areas on Thursday. 

On Wednesday, the skies remained mostly cloudy, with occasional glimpses of the sun. The IMD expects this pattern to continue for the next 4 to 5 days in Delhi.

Weather forecast for Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

In Uttar Pradesh, rain is expected on August 15 in several districts, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Moradabad, Aligarh, Agra, and more. 

The hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also expected to experience continuous rainfall. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these regions for the next 4 to 5 days. 

Rainfall in other states

Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to see rainfall. According to the IMD, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Rajasthan may experience scattered to widespread showers over the next few days. 

Heavy rain is likely in Rajasthan from August 15 to 17, affecting districts like Jaipur, Ajmer, Alwar. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat are predicted to have fairly widespread light to moderate rain during this period.
