Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed the prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach at BEML’s facility on Sunday.

The new coach will undergo thorough testing over the next 10 days before moving to track trials for further evaluation. Vaishnaw shared with reporters that the train is expected to be ready for passenger service within the next three months.

“Testing will continue for the next one to two months, and then most probably, the service will start in about three months,” he said.

This new sleeper coach, developed by BEML using the Vande Bharat platform, is designed to offer passengers improved amenities, faster speeds, and enhanced safety compared to the current Rajdhani Express trains.

“Its configuration has been carefully designed with a lot of attention to detail. The needs of the serving staff, whether it’s the loco pilots, maintenance staff, or those serving bedding and food, have been considered. Every toilet has been designed keeping specially-abled individuals in mind,” Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said.

In addition to unveiling the prototype, the minister also laid the foundation stone for a new Vande Bharat manufacturing facility on the BEML premises.

Earlier, on August 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three new Vande Bharat Express trains. These semi-high-speed trains will improve connectivity on important routes across Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The newly introduced trains are the Meerut–Lucknow Vande Bharat Express, the Madurai–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express, and the Chennai–Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express.
