Proclaimed offender arrested, stolen car seized

RUKSIN, 1 Aug: A team of the East Siang police,led by Ruksin SDPO Ayup Boko and Sille-Oyan Police Station OC Yike, arrested a proclaimed offender from Tezpur area in Sonitpur district of Assam, with the help of the Assam Police, on Wednesday.

The police also seized a stolen car from his possession.

The offender, identified as Sandeep Das @ Sanjib Das, of Jonai Lakhinepali Basti in Assam’s Dhemaji district, had been  absconding for the last four months after stealing a Mahindra Thar car from Rani village in East Siang district on 22 April this year.

A case (u/s 379/447/420 of IPC) has been registered, and Das is currently in police custody.

According to the police, Das is a habitual offender who was declared wanted by the Arunachal Pradesh Police as cases were registered against him at the Likabali (L/Siang) and the Daporijo (U/Subansiri) police stations under multiple criminal sections.

He had been arrested earlier too by the East Siang police in connection with cheating and “smuggling of forest wealth” by using fake transit permits in East Siang and bordering Jonai in Assam.
