The Bihar Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill aimed at curbing the scourge of question paper leaks and other malpractices in government recruitment examinations in the state, which, incidentally, has been at the centre of the NEET 2024 question paper leak controversy.

The bill stipulates severe punishment for those involved in such malpractices, including 10 years imprisonment and a minimum Rs 1 crore fine.

The Bihar Public Examinations (PE) (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, was tabled by state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and passed with voice vote amid a walkout by the opposition.

Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said the Bihar government has made a strict law against paper leak.

“With this law, the future of aspirants and students will be secured. The law proposes 10 years imprisonment and a minimum Rs 1 crore fine for the criminals,” said Choudhary.

Reacting to the walkout by the opposition, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said that even if the government does something good, the opposition starts protesting.

“The definition of Opposition has changed today. Even if the government does good work, the Opposition protests. It is unfortunate there was a protest by the opposition against passing of anti-paper leak bill…,” he said.

Meanwhile, Indian Youth Congress workers also gathered outside Bihar Legislative Council and protested against the move by Nitish government.
