Bhubaneswar: In a bid to contain the skyrocketing price of potatoes, the State government today sold it for Rs 100 per 3 KG through dealers in Bhubaneswar.
Consumers made a beeline in front of various government fair price shops in the Capital city to purchase the kitchen tuber at an affordable price. The crowd was seen increased today as there is no need to show the ration card.
Every family is entitled to get 3 kg at Rs 100, said an official.
“Around 100 dealers are operating in BMC. All including card-holders and non-card holders will get the subsidised potato. One family can get 3 kg at once,” said a civil supplies official.
“We are happy to get the potato at such a cheap rate than the market price. Potato is being sold at Rs 50-60 per kg while we are getting 3 kg at only Rs 100 at government fair shops. So, people gathered to get the tuber at a cheap price,” said a city-based consumer.
Sudhakar Panda, secretary of the Odisha Traders’ Association, said 300 trucks loaded with potatoes have reached the State. Most of them are from West Bengal. Aiginia godowns have received around 23-24 trucks. The price is returning to normalcy gradually, he added.
