Shocking rape and murder case in Kolkata

What’s the story

The brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata‘s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has taken a new turn, with the victim’s parents alleging that their daughter may have been a victim of gangrape.

They informed the Calcutta High Court that the postmortem report showed the presence of 150 mg semen in the hymen, which they claim indicated the involvement of more than one individual.

Postmortem report reveals disturbing details

In their petition to the court, they stated that the cause of death was unequivocally stated as strangulation of the neck, with clear signs of sexual assault.

The report also detailed multiple injury marks on their daughter’s body, indicative of a violent attack.

The petition further detailed the gruesome injuries on the victim’s head, including trauma and signs of injury on both ears, suggesting a violent struggle.

Her lips were also injured, indicating possible attempts to silence or gag her.

Parents allege inaction, court questions hospital administration

The Kolkata Police has already arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjoy Roy, in connection with the crime.

However, expressing displeasure over the handling of the case, the Calcutta High Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case, directing Kolkata Police to hand over all documents immediately.

The parents’ petition criticized the lack of action to arrest other potential offenders despite evidence suggesting gang rape and murder.

Parents allege hastily conducted autopsy, cite multiple perpetrators

They also highlighted that key stakeholders responsible for their daughter’s safety at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, including its then principal, have not been apprehended.

“Improper autopsy was done with a view to shield the others involved in their daughter’s death,” they said in the petition.

The victim, a post-graduate trainee doctor, was found murdered in the hospital’s seminar hall last week.
