Train No: 20692 Nagercoil – Tambaram Antyodaya fully cancelled from August 1 to 14

Chennai: Southern Railway on Friday announced the cancellation of the Antyodaya Express train between Tambaram and Nagercoil for 14 days from August 1-14 due to track development works.

“Tambaram Yard Railway Station 2nd Phase Renovation Work has been approved for maintenance work at Tambaram Yard. These works are being carried out for the safety of passengers and trains. Due to this work, Antiyothaya unreserved train service will be canceled from August 1 to 14,” officials from the Southern Railway said.

The only dailyAntyodaya train in the country

The Antyodaya unreserved train service was a boon to the people of the southern district. Antyodaya Express train runs from Chennai Tambaram to Nagercoil at 11 pm daily. Notably, this is the only daily Antiyothaya train in the country. With 15 coaches, this train is operated on a fully booked basis for unreserved passengers. The train departs at 11 pm and reaches Nagercoil at 12.50 the next day.

Antyodaya Express train used to run from Tambaram to Villupuram will reach Trichy via Kumbakonam, and Thanjavur, and from there it will reach Nagercoil via Dindigul and Madurai. Passengers traveling to south districts such as Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Kovilpatti, and Tirunelveli have been largely benefitting of this train service.

Viagai Express departs from Chengalpet instead of Chennai Egmore

Recently, the Southern Railway announced that the Vaigai Express train service will depart from Chengalpattu to Madurai instead of Egmore station from August 1st to 14th due to maintenance work at Tambaram railway station.
Due to this, the southern district passengers must travel by electric train from Chengalpattu to Kilambakkam or Egmore when traveling to Chennai early in the morning.
