The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has convened a meeting of chief ministers and their deputies from all NDA-ruled states on the side-lines of the Niti Aayog meeting in the national capital over the weekend.

This will be the first meeting that will be attended by Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh in over a year since ethnic violence broke out in the north-eastern state in May last year. In fact, this will be the first time that Singh will come face-to-face with Prime Minister Narendra Modi since the clashes erupted.

The chief ministers’ meeting will be held at the party headquarters in Delhi in the second half of Saturday and is expected to go on till late evening. The meeting will further continue on Sunday morning till lunchtime.

“A lot of discussions are expected to take place, which also includes the report card of various states. The discussions revolve around the progress of the Union government schemes and their impact,” a source aware of the developments told Network18.

It is also expected in the meeting that the BJP will focus on the state polls that are in the offing in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana.

“It may be discussed how to keep the focus on development and last-mile delivery in these poll-bound states. The party is aware that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the performance has not been very impressive in states like Maharashtra and Haryana. Further strategy can also be discussed during this meeting,” a source added.

The concept of a chief ministers’ conclave was conceived after PM Modi assumed power in the Centre. At present, this vertical is led by former Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahastrabuddhe, while Union minister Bhupender Yadav is a special invite for the meeting. Senior ministers in the government like Home Minister Amit Shah and Union minister and BJP national president JP Nadda, along with general secretary organisation BL Santhosh, are expected to attend the two-day meeting.

Apart from having their own chief ministers and governments in states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, etc, the BJP has deputy chief ministers with NDA governments in Bihar, Nagaland too.
