The Narendra Modi-led Union government has extended the deadline for farmers to apply for the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, also known as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Farmers can now register for the scheme until August 16, 2024, to secure coverage for their Kharif crops, including rice, jowar, millet, maize, moong, groundnut, soyabean, and cotton. The original deadline was July 31, 2024.

The PM Crop Insurance Scheme provides financial support to farmers in the event of crop damage caused by natural disasters such as droughts, floods, hail, storms, landslides, cyclones, waterlogging, and lightning. To benefit from the scheme, farmers must register on the official website and provide necessary documents, including an Aadhar card, bank passbook, Khasra number, sowing certificate, and land-related documents.

The extended registration deadlines vary by state. Farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha now have until August 10, 2024, to apply. In Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, and Meghalaya, the new deadline is August 16, 2024. Farmers are encouraged to take advantage of this extension to ensure their crops are protected under the scheme.
