Peace deal with KLO reaches centre-stage, ‘formal declaration’ awaits
GUWAHATI, July 23: With the inclusion of the KLO(KN) faction in peace parleys, the Central government’s peace initiative with the Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) has reached its final stage, with only the “final declaration” awaiting.
“Our talks with the Indian government are at the final stage and only formal declaration is awaiting,” said Darsar Langkam Koch, chief of KLO(KN).
Initially, the KLO(KN) faction declined to engage in peace talks with the government led by KLO chief Jeevan Singha Koch.

“However, KLO(KN) chairman Darsar Langkam Koch entered India on June 18, 2024, and joined the peace talks under the leadership iof Jeevan Singha Koch,” the statement said.
The KLO(KN) urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for a permanent solution to the issues of the community based on the charter of demands.
KLO chief Jeevan Singha Koch entered India on January 17, 2023, in response to the invitation of the Central government for talks to resolve the issues of the group. On March 15, 2023, KLO foreign secretary
Koch Paval also joined the peace talks with the government.

Following several rounds of talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), 28 leading organizations of Koch Rajbonghsis, including Kamatapur Suraksha Samity (KSS) and Kamatapur State Demand Committee (KSDC) demanded the MHA for a peace talk with the KLO chief Jiban Singha Koch on the five charter of demand prepared by the organizations.
The organizations have demanded the reorganization of Kamatapur-Coochbehar state, Eight Schedule status to Kamatapur or Rajabonghi language, granting ST status to the Koch Rajbongshis living in Assam and North Bengal, general amnesty to the leaders and cadres of the KLO and rehabilitation of all leaders and cadres of theKLO.
“Based on this charter of demand, the KLO has held the final round of talks with the MHA to finalise the peace deal,” the statement added.
