SRINAGAR: The Border Security Force (BSF) has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan Rangers after Pakistan displayed a photograph of Kashmiri separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani at the Attari-Wagah joint check post, according to a report in The New Indian Express. Geelani, 91, passed away at his Srinagar residence on September 1, 2021.

According to reports, the photograph was placed near the site of the flag-lowering ceremony at the Joint Integrated Check Post (JICP) on the Wagah side in Pakistan.
The New Indian Express reported that a senior BSF official, who chose to remain anonymous, said that the photo was recently displayed, prompting the BSF to lodge a protest with the Pakistan Rangers.
The official explained that the area is meant solely for regimental and ceremonial use and should not be used for political purposes, suggesting that the photo should be removed.
The officer told the newspaper that Pakistan’s action at this notable location is intended to influence visitors coming for the Beat-the-Retreat ceremony — a traditional military ceremony marking the end of the official day.
“It is a provocative move aimed at emphasising the Kashmir issue and heightening tensions,” he said.
