Odisha Exported Seafood Worth Rs 3,954.60 Cr In FY 2023-24, Says Minister | Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has exported 84,231 metric tons of seafood worth Rs. 3,954.60 crore in the financial year 2023-24. This information was revealed by Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resource Development, Gokulananda Mallik, in the State Assembly on Wednesday.

Mallik’s response came after BJD MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo raised a query seeking details on the current status of marine exports from Odisha to foreign countries over the last five years. Sahu also requested information on Odisha’s ranking in the country in terms of seafood exports.

According to the data, the quantity of seafood exported from Odisha to foreign countries was 66,671 metric tons in 2019-20, valued at Rs. 3243.93 crore. However, in 2020-21, the quantity decreased by 8.93% to 60,718 metric tons, with a value of Rs. 3107.68 crore.

In 2021-22, the sector saw a massive growth of 42.90% with the export of 86,765 metric tons of seafood products, valued at Rs. 4627.91 crore. However, this growth was short-lived, as the sector witnessed a decline of 1.68% in 2022-23, with the export of 85,308 metric tons, valued at Rs. 4546.47 crore.

In 2023-24, the sector saw another decline of 1.26%, with the export of 84,231 metric tons, valued at Rs. 3954.60 crore.
