Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the ninth edition of India rankings at an event organised at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The Ministry of Education is also planning to begin a Sustainability Ranking Category in the year 2025.

It should be noted that the NIRF ranking system draws the general understanding and recommendations reached by a core committee set up by MHRD, to determine the basic parameters for ranking various institutions and universities.

The Core Committee has framed various parameters approved by MHRD based on which NIRF rankings are decided. The parameters are learning, teaching, resources, outreach and inclusivity, research and professional practice, perception, and graduation results.

Last year, IIT Madras secured the top position in the overall category and has retained its top spot this year as well. The NIRF ranking system was approved by MHRD and was launched on 29 September 2015.
