Tura, Aug 14: The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi), based in Guwahati, extended its support to Tuberculosis (TB) patients in Tura by donating essential nutritional supplies to the District TB Hospital on Wednesday.

This initiative is part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan and was organized by NEDFi in collaboration with the District TB Hospital, West Garo Hills. The program saw the presence of key officials, including Dr. Riksilchi M Sangma, District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) Incharge, West Garo Hills; Saiedul Hussain, Deputy General Manager of NEDFi, Guwahati; and Dr. Suparna Roy Hajong, Additional District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), Tura, alongside the hospital staff.

This is the maiden initiative of NEDFi, under which it has adopted 50 TB patients from the West Garo Hills district, committing to provide them with six months of nutritional support. The support package includes 6 kg of rice, 3 kg of lentils, and 2 liters of mustard oil, with distributions scheduled every two months.

This effort is part of NEDFi’s broader plan to cover eight northeastern states, with a target of supporting 100 TB patients in each state. In Meghalaya, NEDFi has selected two districts for this program – West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.

The District TB Hospital is working hard to declare West Garo Hills a TB-free district by 2025, in line with the target set by the Government of India.
