The National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party have opened channels with the Congress’ leadership for talks over an alliance in the assembly polls, the Congress’ newly-appointed state unit chief Tariq Hameed Karra said on Monday.
The Congress is “very sure” that if regional parties — a part of the opposition INDIA bloc — continue with the aim for which the alliance was formed, “we will succeed”, Karra said. Three-phase elections to the 90-member Assembly will be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1 with results on October 4. PTI

14 guarantees in NC manifesto

Restoration of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood as well as implementation of the autonomy resolution passed by the erstwhile assembly in 2000 are among the National Conference’s 12 guarantees in its manifesto for the polls. The manifesto also promised to seek amnesty for all political prisoners and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits.
