The traffic guidance given by Adani Enterprises mentions that the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will reach the peak capacity of its operations in the first quarter of early next year. This is a huge win for the Adani Group in the airport sector. This airport will help increase Adani Group’s airport capacity. It will also reduce the load on Mumbai International Airport. The passengers will find it easier to travel to different destinations from the country’s financial capital. They will also be offered extraordinary services to make their journey more convenient. The Adani Debt will also gradually decrease in the aviation sector.

Adani’s Plans for the Navi Mumbai Airport:

The Deputy Chief Finance Officer of Adani Enterprises has mentioned that the company is currently pulling up the first phase of the Navi Mumbai Airport. The initial capacity of the airport will be 20 million passengers. He has also mentioned that taking into consideration the way Mumbai passengers travel and the catchment area, the airport will easily be able to hit its peak capacity during the first quarter of the next year itself. This will add to the profitability of Adani Group’s business. It will also earn an excellent return on its investment in the airport. The speculation about Adani Debt will also come to an end.

Saurabh Shah has further added that he believes that there will be no dent in the traffic operations at the existing Mumbai International Airport. This airport is also under the control of the Adani Group. Navi Mumbai Airport is scheduled to commence operations in the March quarter of 2025. This reflects a short delay of 3 months from its previously announced opening date. The runway for the airport is already ready. The company is currently working on building the terminal. A lot of time has been spent acquiring the necessary approvals in terms of disaster management and risk management. So far, airport operations are being conducted smoothly.

The Navi Mumbai Airport’s Capacity:

In July 2024, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) tested the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the airport. The ILS systems follow a precision runway approach. It makes use of dual radio streams to provide pilots with both horizontal and vertical guidance during the landing. After the completion of all its phases, the airport will be able to handle 90 million passengers and 2.6 million tons of cargo per year. It is expected to reach this value by 2031-32. The Mumbai International Airport has a capacity of 55 million passengers. The Delhi Airport is also all set to handle 70 million passengers this year at its full capacity.

The Navi Mumbai Airport will have four passenger terminals. It will also have two parallel runways. The airport will also be connected to the National Highway 4B, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, and the Sion-Panvel Highway. It will also be connected by a railway link, a water terminal, and a metro station in the upcoming years. The new greenfield airport will also have the first automated people mover system in the country. This will help move passengers across the different terminals smoothly and conveniently.

How Will Navi Mumbai Airport Impact The Adani Group’s Business?

Navi Mumbai International Airport is going to be the eighth airport to be under the control of Adani Airport Holding Limited, which operates under Adani Enterprises. The company’s existing airports handle 23% of the air traffic. They also serve around 20% of the passenger base. AAHL plans to double its consumers in the near future. It plans to reach a value of 200 million in 2024 and 400 million in 2028. This will be an extraordinary success for Adani Group’s airport business.

The company also plans to focus on non-aero development. A lot of city-side development projects are already underway. These city-side development activities would involve building various commercial centres in and around the airports. This will diversify the Adani Group’s airport business. It will be able to increase its revenue generation. The overall Adani Debt will also be reduced.

Conclusion:

The Adani Group is already on its journey towards taking up several ventures in the airport sector. The Adani Group’s airport business will experience enormous prosperity once these projects achieve successful completion. The conglomerate will also be able to take its business operations to new heights. It will also ease the travelling experience for the passengers.
