DIMAPUR, APRIL 25 (MExN): The Nagaland University Students’ Union, Kohima Campus hosted the 18th Zona Fest on April 18 & 19 by celebrating the Literary cum Cultural Day under the theme ‘Encompassing Diversity and Inclusivity’ at RCEMPA, Jotsoma.
Giving a sequence of the 2-day event, a press release issued by the NUSU, Kohima Campus said on April 18, the Literary Day was celebrated with Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, 9 AC Kohima as the chief guest. Rhutso in his speech urged the students to aim for bigger things in life by making ‘use of his life as an example.’ He also exhorted on the importance of education in the current scenario of Naga politics and more.
Competitions for the literary day include slam poetry, extempore speech, advertisement, quiz competition, debate and more. In the debate competition which was held on the topic, ‘Social media is reducing social interactions in reality,’ Thejase-e Nagi and Putsu P from the opposition team and Chemang from the motion were awarded the title of ‘Best Debater.’
The cultural day was witnessed on April 19 where A. Pongshi Phom, MLA, 50 AC Longleng graced the event as the guest of honour and Dr. Hotokhu Chishi, retired director, Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Nagaland was the guest speaker.
Phom in his speech articulated on the benefits and success that comes after trials and errors. Dr. Hotokhu Chishi highlighted the history and roots of Naga people and how important it is for the people of Nagaland to remember where we come from and who we are.
The day marked with colourful cultural performances and ethnic fashion show which provided an outlook on the changes seen in cultural practices and traditions throughout the years, the press release stated.
More than 700 students including professors, former executives of NUSU-KC and guests from various media platforms attended the 2-day event.
