Nagaland: Sumi bodies ban NSCN(R)-Wangtin group in Zunheboto
Kohima, Aug 5: Following the assault of a native of Natha old village, the Sumi Youth Organisation (SYO), the Zunheboto Tokujo Kukami (ZTK), the Zunhebota Area Public Organisation (ZAPO), and Zunheboto Town GB Association (ZTGBA) have decided to ban NSCN(R)-Wangtin group from Zunheboto district of Nagaland.
During a resolution adopted on Friday (August 2, 2024), the organisations mentioned that it has taken serious note of the incident involving one person named Deck, of Natha Old Village.
According to the statement, Deck was mercilessly beaten and subsequently hospitalized, an act allegedly perpetrated by the underground cadres of NSCN(R) – Wangtin group. The Sümi organizations have condemned such a heinous act in the strongest terms.

The Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI) has also expressed anguish over the “bestial act” allegedly committed by the underground faction of NSCN(R) – Wangtin group to one of their members, Deck H. Yepthomi of Natha Old village, a butcher at Daily Bazar, Zunheboto.
It is claimed that he was taken to an uninhabited location wherein he was mercilessly beaten-up to the point of near fatality.
ZCCI said it stands committed to the joint resolve of SYO, ZTK, ZAPO and ZTGBA against the Group, and arrested that it is a sounding message against the current common malevolence pervasive in our society.
It further condemned the prevailing evils operating under the shadow of the national movement.
The Chamber expressed that the outcome at any stage of national struggle should be to create a conducive and enabling ambience for its subject to thrive and prosper, whereas this kind of “horrifying incident” is ironically otherwise, thereby proliferating the current skepticism against the genuine struggle.
The Chamber urged the law enforcing agencies to sincerely listen to the public outcry for safety and justice and award befitting punishment to the perpetrators as per the law of the land.
