Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The Poshan Maah 2024 in Nagaland officially kicked off today with the Department of Social Welfare leading the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. This year’s celebration aligns with the Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan’s ongoing mission to improve nutrition and health across India, launched by the Prime Minister in 2018.

The #Plant4Mother campaign, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, aims to combat global warming, enhance air quality, and create a balanced environment for future generations. The initiative underscores the profound bond between a mother and her child, promoting environmental sustainability as a key to safeguarding this relationship.

The plantation drive was spearheaded by Martha Ritse, Secretary of Social Welfare, alongside notable participants including Olemjungla Aier, Project Director of Poshan Abhiyaan; Bodeno S. Colo, Additional Secretary; Tosheli Zhimomi, Director of Social Welfare; and various Directorate Officers, staff, and members of the SPMU Poshan Abhiyaan team. District Social Welfare and Anganwadi Workers across the state also took part in the campaign, planting trees at district, block, and Anganwadi centers.

The Poshan Maah, celebrated annually in September, is a crucial component of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, focusing on behavioral change at both individual and community levels. This year’s Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan will be observed in conjunction with multiple departments, including Health and Family Welfare, Rural Development – NSRLM, School Education, AYUSH, Horticulture, Forest and Climate Change, Agriculture, and Local Administration.

The celebration will emphasize five key themes- Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi and Use of Technology for Better Governance.
