Guwahati, July 30: Muslims from across Assam on Monday urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to reinstate the Qazi system under the Assam Moslem Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935.

The Act was repealed through an ordinance by the Governor of Assam in March, this year, as it was considered outdated. The Assam government said the British-era legislation promoted child marriage.
